I'm sure many of you have breathed a sigh of relief as gas prices have been dropping since the Memorial Day weekend. I wouldn't get too comfortable too soon! I was reading another news article today (I have to keep up on things). The headline read: "Popularity of Ethanol Causes Oil Industry to Scale Back"! According to the article, oil companies are putting a hold on many refinery expansions due to the President's recent call to cut gasoline use by 20%, and legislation calling for huge increases in biofuels. Now, I for one have no problem with finding an alternative fuel source. However, I don't think we are looking in the right direction here. I mean, where do we stand if we have a bad year for corn? Sure, ethanol production is helping build jobs, and is a cleaner burning fuel, but this, too, is a source that is vulnerable to "acts of God". Droughts, floods, etc. All of these can affect production.

I've been doing some research on the web regarding the production of ethanol, and the jury is still out as to whether or not it is even more cost effective to make than fossil-based fuels. So, keeping that in mind.... What has been one of the major excuses used in answer to why gasoline prices took off like they did earlier this year? The fact that no new refineries have been built in X number of years to keep up with the demand! Now, the producers are saying that they "see growing uncertainty about future gasoline demand and little need to expand refineries or build new ones"? So they put their expansion projects on hold, and the next holiday driving season we will see prices soar again...higher and higher each season, while we continue to be fed the excuse about the capacity of our refineries, and the absence of new refineries over the years!

The truth IS being revealed to those who really want to see it! If you pay attention, you find that the industry and the government are in this thing together, and they are working to pull the wool over all of our eyes for the sake of money! Don't let them get away with it!!! Boycott! Write your representatives! Urge them to find a real, cost-effective, dependable alternative to fossil fuels! The ideas are out there, and there are people who have the knowledge to make it happen! Of course, the big money people do not want to hear that it is actually possible to power anything on water...something that costs just pennies a gallon, and you can get from a hose in your front yard!
